Portobello Road Fashion Blog

I normally look at Asian high street fashion for example, I visited Southall where l saw Asian market stalls selling party wear and jewellery. The problem is l can't seem to find modern Asian street fashion or casual every day fashion us UK Asian women would wear. As a result, l turn to the British for inspiration to fill in that modern fusion gap. And to do that l went to Portobello Road in London to give you a taste of everyday casual fashion trends brewing in Britain.

When you think of a market I’m sure many of you think of a typical market stall in middle of a town centre or city, cheap clothes and tatty fashion. The fashion seems to be of a low quality, styles are all the same on all the stalls and nothing you would even consider wearing. It’s either too revealing or has a certain female style that we all try staying away from.

What if l told you Portobello Road Market is an exception, it’s different and unique with the fashion is has to offer as London's Portbello Road has it's own unique fashion scene. From hats, scarves, vintage jewellery, shoes, accessories, fur coats to fashion. I’d say most of the fashion on Portobello Road are at market prices from £10 - £20. The window display is normally a big give away to the prices of the items in the shop.

I even came across a fur coat shop; l couldn’t help but admire the beautiful real fur from £200 to £600. I’m against wearing animal fur, so l would of loved to see some high quality fake fur coats however, the classic design and cut of the coats won me over. I could imagine wearing the coats with a waist belt in the winter. I’ve always wanted a beautifully tailored, high quality fake fur coat and next time l will have to pop back and ask.

Other vintage shops range in price for example, l loved the  vintage designer jewellery shop Hirst Antiques (below) it with was full of Chanel, Givenchy and Gucci jewellery worn from back in the day.

If your looking for affordable vintage necklaces, brooches and earrings l would high recommend walking down Portobello Road and you will reach a busy street with people which means you’ve reached the Market. And one of these next stalls in Portobello Market is ideal for all my vintage jewellery fashion lovers. The owner of the stall Linda was wonderful, l liked a necklace chain but a different pendant and she was more than happy to accommodate my needs. I know the one purchase l made from her will stay with my as a staple piece.

She told me she's had the stall spot at Portobello Road for 10 years and her vintage pieces come from America and Europe. They were truly beautiful, my mind started getting a rush of ideas and l couldn't help but purchase a vintage necklace. There was too much to pick from and l would highly recommend it. The vintage stall is situated in front of Cheaper Galleries - 69A Portobello Road. And Sara K blog readers and followers of 20% off their purchase, just quote '20% off Sara K blog.

It's prefect for hijab fashion and Asian fashion is you want to create a classic style. Why not be unique, try something different and create a new vintage look for yourself.

Other Portobello Road/Market shops and stalls included scarf stalls and they weren’t like the Asian scarves we are used to. They were more middle eastern embroidered pieces with Arab prints.

Whether your Asian or not and your looking for some inspiration and don’t mind the western market flavour Portobello Road is one to visit. It's a great day out, you can even find crepes, gelato ice cream and a range of delicious savoury foods.

It may not be to everyone’s taste but if your a eastern, western fashion lover and you don’t mind experiencing something different why not give it a go.

I will definitely going back and taking Mum and Sid. Plus l want some more vintage jewellery!!
