The Dorchester welcomes the rich and famous from all over the globe and this Sunday it held Aashni & Co Wedding Show, which showcased the finest Indian fashion.
The Dorchester Ballroom was the perfect setting for a show full of highly acclaimed designers. Just stepping in to the grand ballroom hall you couldn't help but admire the dazzling British decor and ambience it radiated against the Indian garments in the foreground.
The press, bloggers and general public were out in force to welcome the South Asian equivalent of Gucci and Chanel. Yes, the crème del-a crème of Indian fashion were in Mayfair this weekend including the pioneers of Indian couture Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra and Tarun Tahiliani only to mention a few.
It was the perfect opportunity for the public to see the great Indian designer fashion face-to-face which made a delightful change from always seeing in online, TV or on celebrities.
As you walked in you were greeted by several mannequins on pedestals placed all around the circular entrance for individuals to appreciate the richness in Indian fashion. And that was only a mere droplet of the garments on offer.
A girl could get lost in the ora of high-end luxury bridal fashion at Aashni & Co's Wedding Show. The vivid visions of Bollywood and perfect South Asian wedding came to mind. It was fashion to die for, not even western fashion can come close. As l took in the magnificent gowns l felt calling it fashion was an understatement, it wasn't just fashion but Indian art.
And in true Asian style the fashion didn't stop there, you only had to walk through to the grand hall where all the designers' gorgeous collections were being exhibiting and if that didn't tickle your fancy an additional room. Indeed you were spoilt for choice for bridal outfits; you know it's bridal gowns your aunties, friends and family would be talking about for years to come.
It was nice to see a different side to Asian fashion in the UK however; some fashionistas did mention it wasn't affordable for the general public as garments were priced between £2000 - £8000. Sadly, to buy high-end luxury bridal gowns of course it won't be in everyone's price range as many of us may to be able to afford the Gucci's AND even if we could we wouldn't.
We hope to see the designers and Aashni & Co again soon.
